The Benatti Resiliency Model focuses on the five key areas needed to prevent burnout and enhance recharge. The focus on recharge and resiliency is one of the key components of my coaching process and in sparking your career success.
I just had an opportunity to teach my new training, Career ReCharge – Resiliency Strategies for Peak Performance which takes individuals through each step of the model, for staff of the North Shore Youth Career Center. These individuals are making a difference every day for the youth in Massachusetts. This is no easy task! They left with their own customized resiliency plan. I was impressed and motivated by their career passion, self-awareness and by their strong drive to continue and grow in their careers.
I shared with them a key point that often is misunderstood in so many stress management workshops. While the goal of most stress management workshops is to eliminate stress, we need some stress in our lives! The question is how much stress do we need to challenge and keep our career interesting and how much waste our time and energy?
The key in thinking about this concept is a strategy called attention management. For years we focused first on time management and then on managing our energy. Both time and energy are important but in today’s 24/7 connected world we also need to think about the focus of our attention. Do we let every urgent matter in an email side track us? Are our important daily goals accomplished or do we leave every day feeling frustrated and more behind in work? The concept of attention management is to list our top priorities at the beginning of every week, and then to strategically making a plan. Urgency should not control our lives and bring the overwhelming effects of stress into it.
Ask yourself beginning today, “Are stress and urgency running most of my days or am I proactive and focused on what matters most? Make your plan!
