I worked with a client who was dealing with significant changes in her career. She was expanding her business and working with new partners. However, her own unjustified FEARS were dragging her down. While she had a level of excitement about the new opportunities, she had many reservations. There was apprehension about how she would get along with her partners. She was concerned that expanding her business would impact the quality of her work. These scenarios began to play out in her head and consume her thoughts. She was pre-worrying. These thoughts were consuming so much of her mental space that she wasn’t focusing on the present, doing her work and building the relationships.
She needed to change her perspective. Instead of being weighed down by the heaviness of worry, she opted to be lifted up by the joy and prospect of happiness. This meant anticipating a good partnership, anticipating doing great work, anticipating happiness in the present.
